The ‘Wielkopolski Centre for Self-Government Education and Studies’ Association [WOKISS]
was founded in 1990 and
it is the oldest and largest of regional local government organizations in Poland. At present it comprises 243 communes and 32 districts from Wielkopolska and neighbouring provinces.

The mission of WOKiSS consists in human resources development and suggesting solutions for ensuring proper functioning of local government administration.

Key principles of operation

  • equal rights of all members,

  • common access to all programmes,

  • high quality and non-commercial prices of provided services.

Forms of activity:

  • organization of training courses, seminars, conferences and meetings of professional clubs,

  • organization of internships abroad and studio trips,

  • legal counselling,

  • advice on obtaining EU funds,

  • suggesting and implementing advanced IT solutions,

  • supporting the development of the information society,

  • supporting international cooperation of communes and districts,

  • preparation of documents necessary for development planning.

WOKiSS performs the following activities every year:

  • organizes about 1000 training courses for more than 25000 trainees,

  • organizes professional internships abroad and studio trips for over 200 persons,

  • provides legal counselling over 6500 times,

  • advises on IT issues over 4000 times,

  • develops over 200 legal opinions,

  • develops about 90 documents necessary for preparation of development plans.

The executive body of the association is the Board, headed by Mirosław Broniszewski, PhD, the President (mayor of Przykona). Maciej Kozik is the Executive Director of the Centre.
